the race that wasn’t

I just finished CMM… well, the cmm HALF.  I’ve been ready for the full forever, and knew that i could do it.  At mile 9, things just got slower and slower and slower.  I figured finishing the half was the best thing because i figured i could barely make it up the hills then, what about when the rest come?  I hinted that i may be doing the half, but really was kidding around.  but i must have psyched myself out in doing so.  i just naturally made the turn to do the half when the split came. won’t even talk about time.  just put it up for a bad day.  but still did something that 99% of the population won’t.

dammit… at this rate, i’ll never become a marathoner.  Chicago and Disney are bound to be nice and flat…. right? No hills.  Can anyone out there guarantee this to me???

THe trip begins

as of 4:15 this afternoon, we are off to Nashville. To say excited is an understatement. Hydration starts today.  The only bad thing that happened this week is that i got really, really sick on Monday. Barfing type of stuff.  Couldn’t keep anything down except some gatorade… (amazing stuff that Gatorade…). AND I actually did something I never do…. went home sick (on the recommendation of a few folks….).  Felt bad about is since its not a “me” thing to do. Strangely enough, they understand me and how i felt doing it…. Yesterday was a little better—but the stomach couldn’t take much more than a little bite of bagel for breakfast, roll for lunch (the salad made me naucheous (sic)) and a bite of pizza for dinner.  Not exactly the best pre-race meals.  Have a really bad headache now, but will be OK.  Hopefully, the bagels coming today for lab week are from einsteins…... doubt it, but that would totally rock.  NOT doing the chinese food for lunch.  can’t risk more of a headache for the drive.

can’t wait to see everyone in a few days.  this is a weekend to remember. can’t wait to get to the mountains either!!

5 days to CMM

CMM is really getting close.  I’m SOOOOOOOOO excited. This is going to be a race to remember.

Relay for Life in Plant City was this past Friday night.  I was scheduled to do 4 hours worth, but ended up doing “only” 3.5 hours. (Time off for the luminaria and opening ceremonies)... BUT i did manage to walk about 15 miles throughout the time.  This totally gives me confidence that i can do this race.  I have done the training, but the long walk told me that i can do this, and look and feel really good afterwards. Granted, its not the thing I wanted to do two weeks before a major race, but I promised everyone from the activities committee chair to the COO, so I couldn’t go back on my word. Besides, its shows that i’m a team player….I’ve felt good after the 18-20 milers, but this was under conditions with tons of people near by, and not on a really easy trail with fewer people.  (BTW: this relay is the biggest in the county…. blew my mind on how much bigger it was than the one in Arlington.  I’d love to be on committee next year (registration would work and vice luminaria would rock), but i need to be able to get to meetings easily.  we shall see…..

more later as taper madness really hits.  i’m hoping to do some sort of carb depletion/loading this week… and oh, yeah… hydrating is starting, too….

She emerges from the dark…

.. I know its been ages since I last updated, but between training and long workdays its been hard to put two words together.  But here I am…

I’ve been doing really great at work… doing lots of consecutive days is great for me; i feel so good, and what even makes it better, i accomplished a lot and had some really good runs and workouts in the interim.. gonna be a withdrawl having a day off

Heading to Boston for Easter. Should be lots of fun along with the cheering on of friends during the marathon.  THink we’re going to Jim’s house for pre marathon madness.  better than being at the half way point.  The trick is to tell everyone where i’m going to be.  Heading to the expo on Saturday for last minute stuff for CMM.

CMM—- two weeks until we take off for the REAL vacation.  I can’t wait to see everyone there, but mostly the race….  time off is gonna be good, but i have a feeling that there is going to be TONS of work between now and then and LOTS of work once I get back.  Nothing but good stuff, though….

Dave is doing remarkably well. LOVES his bike, and we started something new instead of the twice weekly nightly spin class….  walking around the lake.  THat is, I RUN around the lake (about 3 miles) head around again to meet up with him after I already finish one loop….. he doesn’t mind me doing the running…. on the contrary, the challenge becomes being at a further point along the path so that I actually run further before cooling down to meet up with him..  Its a game to him, a really great tempo run for me.   SO we BOTH win….

Time to get ready to settle down for the night.  I have a 2:00 am start time tomorrow so that I can leave by noon to sleep for a few hours before heading out.

To all—have a great day…. and talk to you on the flip side of the day…
