The week has been interesting to say the least. Training is going OK and I follwed the “plan” but without as much energy as I would like. The times are good, averaging 9:30 miles for the longer distances, 9:15 for the shorter ones, good, but i’m way too hard on myself for it to be considered really good…....... tomorrow is my long run of 10 miles (funny how that is seemingly short these days!!) but will be done on the treadmill here at the clubhouse way before folks are up for the church service and the golfing begins. Then its napping time for me.
Got Dave his pick up truck(a new big boy toy) today (2006 Chevy Colorado Extended Cab), trading in the 2006 Chevy Express Van…. He’s SO happy about this. The gas mileage is awesome (28 mpg vs 14 mpg) and we can still haul tons o’stuff with it!! He’s psyched. He’s also a doll.. made me a wonderful shake afer my run today. I’m promised a massage tomorrow after the long run, complete with oil, candlelight and all the trimmings…. (OK, TMI… but i am SO excited about that).
Next week is the Starfleet International Conference (aka, SFI IC). It should be fun. The dress that dave cannot leave me alone in will be brought along for the banquet. We’re actually going to see where this club is headed to, and where it has been and hopefully where its going to. I have some faith that it will survive, but on the otherhand with all the (insert expletive) that has been going on the past few months, i don’t know. I do know that we are leaving the chapter and going back to being the good admiral and commodore that we are…. can’t stand being on a chapter (with dave as XO, and me as CMO)—- if you aren’t in SFI, the Vice President and one of the Officers—- and not knowing what is ging on until we read about it in the newsletter. Looking forward to retiring….. but not for long for sure. We’ve tried before, but we’ll be back in another shape and form soon….
Edit: We’ll probably re-join the USS Hood again. In Region 15, but it’ll give names on the roster for these guys. Prefer THAT to being “unassigned” and the powers that be assigning us to a understrength chapter here in Florida that we really don’t want to be part of and probably wouldn’t even be asked if it was OK to be part of….. (so retired to an exent, but not really!!)
House still rocks. more pictures to follow!

Sorry for keeping so quiet of late. Its been really busy, I’ve been averaging 20-30 hrs of OT a week, and the time at home is really dave’s time. I just want to post updates on a couple of things—- fandom, the house, and chicago training. ALl I could say about work is that its good, and learning more and more every day. Got SO much to do and days speed by.
Chicago training going well. Following Hal Higdon’s Intermediate II program, pretty much to the letter. The mid week runs are tough, but I got the 7 miler done after work. I know all things will go well. I just have to switch things about a bit for this weekend, so instead of a friday rest day, i’ll rest on Sunday (pushing everything up a day… ) as I have been asked to come in to help with a massive downtime. ’s all good!! As long as I get those long runs in, I’m golden. REally excited about the fundraising stuff, we’ll see how far I’ll go without really trying. (The link is on the sidebar, but again, not asking ANYONE for anything. I’m willing to fund myself with the minimum stuff….). My main reason for doing this is that I have neurofibromatosis, and if i knew more about this as a kid, i would have gotten into fitness lots sooner. nuff said on this!!
Fandom….. let’s just say we’ve grown up a bit. It was weird going to Shore LEave for the McAuliffe reunion. While it was nice to see everyone, we also enjoyed doing the con stuff. I think the thing is that dave and i enjoy seeing folks, but its the con we come for. Something was missing at SL, so we are going to give it a break. We’ll see how IC goes. We’re looking forward to it, but its always a curious thing on seeing folks without the pull of a con. DragonCon is a different story. I know we are going to have fun there. There is always something going on, and we can do FANNISH stuff. I’d like to see Michael and Harriet (if he is in town for the previous few days….), but we’ll see on that….
I think that is about it for now, more later
Won’t say too much about the house except that I love it. ITs big, airey, light, and just so homey. ALmost all gone from the apartment, and stuff is getting into its place. more pictures to come.

I know its been about two weeks since I’ve posted—and the closing of the house. To say I LOVE this place is an understatement. Its the best thing we’ve ever done. Its quiet, the neighbors (who we’ve actually met!!) are nice. THe community is well kept and we feel safe. Most important. we were safer than where we were before coming to this town, but this is just the icing on the cake. Seriously. Working tons of hours at things I LOVE to do like computer stuff, lab stuff.. just the usual great work stuff. I didn’t think I could be this happy at a job, but i am. Dave has a couple of nibbles at things, too, so its pretty cool.
Came back from MA last Tuesday night from helping mom get back into the swing of things after the rehab. I guess she’s doing OK. Offered to help out in getting her stuff, but she said no. (You know, fresh stuff for the fridge, meals and things like that.) We tried, though.
Running going awesome. Chicago is T minus 16. Looking good, feeling good. Diet is trying to get better by eliminating the crap. I’d like to lose like 10 lbs, but that is pushing it a bit. I just am so terrified to go back to old anoerexic habits – its a recovery that even goes on today, almost 25 years later.
Have a great fourth everyone. I gotta work, but that is OK. I don’t mind. OT and holiday pay all wrapped up in one. My type of shift.
